paced the hosts with a hat trick, while classmate Hailey
Colburn (Concord, NH) had two markers and an assist.
Sophomore Katie Powers (Ashburnham, MA) and
freshman Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, VT) each
posted a tally and a helper, and junior Marianna Marcellino
(Milton, MA) made seven saves.
Junior Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) notched
four goals to lead Wellesley, senior Caitlin Meeker
(Columbia, MD) and freshman Meagan Fuchs
(Portland, OR) scored twice apiece, while first-year
Allison Robbins (North Bennington, VT) had a goal
and an assist. Junior goalie Mary Mattia (Atlanta,
GA) came away with eight stops.
Wellesley tallied four of the game's first five goals by the
midway point of the opening half, with Fuchs and Holland scoring
two times each. The hosts trimmed their deficit to 4-3 with a
Colburn free-position goal at 14:33 and a marker from junior
Kathryn Sudbey (Sandy Hook, CT) at 11:29, but
three different Blue players found the back of the net during a
half-ending 3-1 run as Wellesley held a 7-4 advantage at the
intermission.
Wheaton answered with a 4-1 run to begin the second half, as
three different Lyons tallied to tie the score at eight 17:12
in. Whynot posted a pair of goals in the stretch, while
Palmer scored once and assisted another. However, the hosts
were held scoreless during the final 12:47, as Holland collected
the game-winner at 10:50 in sparking a 3-0 spurt over
5:34.
On Thursday, the Lyons head to non-league foe Tufts University
in Medford, where they will face the nationally-ranked Jumbos at
4:30 p.m. Wellesley takes the field again on Saturday at
noon, when they host MIT in the regular season closer.
