Four members of the Wellesley College tennis team wrapped up
play at this weekend's ITA New England Championship, co-hosted by
Wellesley and Babson College. The Blue were represented at the
tournament by senior captains Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta,
Canada) and Nathalie Herman (San Francisco, CA), and first-years
Erica Choo (Okemos, MI) and Diana Granger (Glencoe, IL).
Shen led the Blue with three wins in the tournament, advancing
to the round of 16 in both singles and doubles. In singles, she
opened with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win over NEWMAC-opponent Nahrhee
Han of Mount Holyoke, and then cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win over
Edwinina Stewart of Tufts in the round of 32. Shen bowed out in the
round of 16, falling to Jordan Brewer of Amherst, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Shen and Granger opened the tournament with a solid
8-5 win over Caroline Baroue and Cassie Smith of Conn. College. The
Wellesley pair was bounced from the tournament in the round of 16,
falling 8-2 to the seventh-seeded par of Sarah Geocaris and
Catherine Teague from Wheaton.
In other singles action for Wellesley, Herman dropped a tght
6-4, 6-4, opening round match to Nicole Block of Vassar, while Choo
fell 6-2, 6-1 to ninth-seeded Laken King of Amherst.
Wellesley returns to dual match action on Saturday, hosting
Mount Holyoke at 1:00pm.
