SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Despite eight saves from
keeper Sarah
Gray, the Wellesley College soccer team suffered
a 1-0 loss at the hands of Union College. The Dutch women outshot
the Blue, for their second win of the week.
Union improves to 2-0 on the season, while Wellesley fell to 0-1
in their first contest of the year.
The Dutchwomen took an early 1-0 lead when Jennifer Mansfield
took a quick pass from Melissa Mansfield inside the six-yard box
and finished high into the net at 2:40. The goal was Mansfield's
second of the season.
Union recorded 10 shots on goal in the contest, while allowing
just two from the Blue. Michaela Katz and Jennifer Mansfield led
the Dutchwomen with three shots on net.
Abby Stohler made two saves, including a key stop with 4:20
remaining in the contest on a shot heading into the top corner from
Wellesley's Amanda
Young.
Wellesley continues their New York road trip tomorrow with a
12:00pm match at RPI. Union next faces SUNY New Paltz at College
Park on Sept. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
