NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team opened the 2011 portion of their schedule with a 169-131 victory over NEWMAC-rival Smith College on Saturday afternoon in Northampton.
Wellesley took home 11 of the meet's 16 events to move to 4-2 overall. The loss evens Smith's record to 2-2.
The Blue were led by first-year Keelin Nave and sophomore Carolyn Jackson who combined for seven wins at the event. Individually, Nave won the 200 free (2:01.25), the 100 fly (1:03.65), and the 200 IM (2:21.89). Jackson was a winner in the 100 breast (1:12.44) and the 200 breast (2:41.36). Nave and Jackson were each part of winning relay teams as well.
Other top performers for Wellesley included Dana Dutton, Mariam Amirkhanashvili, Anne Hamilton and Alex Cahill. Dutton was a winner in the 1,000-free (11:12.00), while Amirkhanashvili took home the 50 free (26.46). Hamilton took home the title in the 100 free (58.44), while Cahil was a winner in the 200 fly (2:27.08).
In the relay events, the Blue notched a win in the 400-free relay in 3:54.32, and in the 200-medley relay in 1:58.38. Swimming the 400-free were Dutton, Hamilton, Megan Lambert and Nave, while Stephanie Welch, Virginia Hung, Jackson and Amirkhanashvili swam on the winning 200-medley team.
Wellesley is back in action on Saturday, January 22nd hosting the two-day Seven Sisters Championships. Action begins on Saturday at 10:00am.
