Wellesley Leads Seven Sisters Swimming & Diving after Day One

WELLESLEY, Mass. –  Host Wellesley College leads a field of five after day one of the 2011 Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championships.  The Blue posted wins in seven of the days twelve events for 760 total points, putting them in position to claim their 13th-consecutive title.  Vassar sits in second (573), Mount Holyoke in third (436.5), Smith in fourth (433.5), while Bryn Mawr rounds out the field in fifth (341).

Wellesley posted wins in all four of the day's relay events.  In the 200-free relay, the team of Dana Dutton, Anne Hamilton, Megan Lambert and Mariam Amirkhanashvili combined for a winning time of 1:43.61, while Gabriela Kovacikova, Carolyn Jackson, Keelin Nave and Amirkhanashvili won the 400-medley in 4:14.44. In the 200-medley relay, Kovacikova, Jackson, Virginia Hung, Lambert won in 1:56.43, while the team of Dutton, Stephanie Welch, Hamilton and Nave picked up a win in the 800-free relay in 8:17.54.

The Blue also got three individual victories.  Dutton was a winner in the 500-free (5:20.09), Nave won the 200-free (2:01.14), and Jackson took the 100-breast title (1:09.74).

Vassar notched two individual wins, as Caroline Shannon won the 200-IM in a time of 2:18.36 and Sam Jones won the 100-back in 1:03.06.  Bryn Mawr also posted two victories, both coming from Meredith Davis.  Davis took home the 50-free title in a time of 25.36, and also won the 100-fly in 1:00.89.

Rounding the first of two days of competition, Smith's Jenika Parson won the one-meter diving event with an NCAA provisional qualifying score of 404.00.

The 2011 Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship wraps up tomorrow.  The three-meter diving event kicks off the action at 10:00am, followed by the final swimming session beginning at 12:15pm. Follow the action at: http://www.wellesleyblue.com/information/sevensistersswim/index
