Offensive Explosion Leads Blue Lax to 20-5 Victory Over Lasell

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College lacrosse team used a potent offensive attack to record a 20-5 victory over non-conference opponent Lasell College on Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. The Blue now improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Lasers fall to 0-3.

Wellesley built up a 44-8 shot advantage, controlling the ball most of the game.  The Blue also held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls, while forcing 26 total Lasell turnovers.

The Blue jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, before Lasell ended the half scoring four of the final five goals to cut the Wellesley advantage to 8-4 at the break. However, Wellesley exploded for 12 second-half scores, including tallying 10 unanswered goals to close the game with a 20-5 victory.

Leading the way for the Blue was first-year Britt Mscisz who tallied five goals and one assist for six points, while also adding four ground balls.  Senior Jenny Holland scored four times, while sophomore Allison Robbins racked up five points on three goals and two assists.  Also for Wellesley, junior Meredith Roy scored three times and added an assist to go along with a game-high three draw controls.

Other offensive highlights for the Blue were sophomore Meagan Fuchs tallying four points on two goals and two assists, while sophomore Elizabeth Clemetson recorded a goal and an assist. Rounding out the offense, sophomore Alyssa Andres and first-year Alex Azzi each added their first career goals.

Defensively for Wellesley, first-year Kaitlyn Kirkaldy caused three turnovers while also adding four ground balls.  Andres and senior Nicole Labbee each added a pair of caused turnovers, while keeper Mary Mattia went largely untested in goal, making two saves.

Lasell was led by sophomore Ashley Slattery and senior Chelsea Caren, who each tallied two goals.  Slattery also added a team-high five draw controls with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Caren picked up three draw controls and three ground balls. 

The Lasers also got a goal and an assist from first-year Britney Wuorio, while in goal, senior Kristin Coderre made 12 saves.

Both schools are back in action with non-conference opponents on Wednesday, March 16th.  Lasell hosts Anna Maria in a 4:00pm clash, while Wellesley hosts Simmons at 4:30pm.
