WELLESLEY, Mass. -- In a double dual meet with Babson College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Wellesley swimming and diving grabbed two wins on Wednesday evening at Chandler Pool. The Blue topped Babson, 224-75 and Coast Guard, 203-97, while Coast Guard defeated Babson 156.5-136.5. In a simultaneous men's meet, Coast Guard downed Babson 224-66.
Wellesley captured 11 of 14 swimming events and both diving competitions in the wins. While in the men's meet, Coast Guard was dominant, taking 15 of 16 events.
Wellesley was led by sophomore
Keelin Nave who picked up three individual wins on the evening, while also anchoring a winning relay. She touched first in the 200-free (1:57.30), the 100-fly (1:00.43) and the 200-fly (2:11.87). Nave also anchored the Blue's winning 200-medley relay team (1:55.13) also featuring sophomores
Emma Mrkonic,
Lindsey Shepardson and
Mariam Amirkhanashvili.
Also picking up multiple wins for Wellesley were Mrkonic, first-year
Grace Bachman and sophomore
Hayley Goydan. Mrkonic picked up wins in both backstroke events, taking the 100 in 1:01.97 and the 200 in 2:15.22. Bachman won the 500 free in 5:30.86, while also winning the 1,000-free in a time of 11:11.86. Goydan swept the diving events, posting a score of 2:33.05 on the 1-meter board, while recording a 2:43.30 on the 3-meter.
Wellesley also got solo wins from sophomore
Anne Hamilton and Amirkhanashviili and a relay victory from the 400-free team. Hamilton took the 100-breast in 1:13.26, while Amirkhanashvili was the 100-free winner in 56.77. In the final relay of the night, the Blue team of first-year
Monica Gates, sophomore
Megan Lambert, Mrkonic and Amirkhanashvili.
For the Coast Guard women, sophomore Chantel Ferguson led the way with a win in the 200-breast (2:36.67), while also placing second in the 100-fly (1:01.98). Freshman Caitlyn Gever picked up a win in the 50-free in a time of 25.55, and also took third in the 100-back in 1:03.69. Rounding out the highlights for the Bears, freshman Darlene Sao won the 200-IM in a time of 2:20.03, while classmate Sara Cantrell took second in the 3-meter diving event (218.40).
The Babson women were led by first-year Erica Riccardi who recorded second place finishes in both the 100-back (1:03.00) and the 200-back (2:15.73). Also swimming strong for the Beavers, senior Nikita Nadkarni took second in the 100-breast in a time of 1:13.79, while first-year Kendall Ford took second in the 200-fly in 2:18.18. On the diving side for Babson, sophomore Mikaela Cucullo took second on the 1-meter board with a score of 204.45.
Wellesley next faces Smith, hosting their final home meet of the season on Saturday at 1:00pm. Coast Guard is back in action Sunday at Springfield in a tri-meet with MIT, while Babson returns to the water tomorrow, at home against Gordon.
