WELLESLEY, Mass. – Williams College leads after day one at the Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. Now in it's fifth year, the tournament is held at the par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course on the Wellesley campus.
The Ephs hold a narrow six-stroke lead over second place, Merrimack College after 18 holes of play. Williams recorded a team total of 316, while Merrimack recorded a 322.
Vassar and Amherst sit tied for third, with each school carding a 343. Host Wellesley is in fifth place after shooting a 358, while Holy Cross (372), Mount Holyoke (387) and Westfield State (520) round out the eight-team field.
Individually, Merrimack's Jessica Ngui holds a one-stroke lead over Williams' Georgiana Salant and Mount Holyoke's Madi Mendiola. Ngui fired a round-one score of 75, while Salant and Mendiola each carded a 76. A total of 45 golfers competed in today's round.
Junior
Alexandra Fuiks and first-year
Bristol Gunderson, who both sit in the top-20 after day one, lead Wellesley. Fuiks carded an 85 to sit in 12th place, while Gunderson shot an 88, and sits in 16th place.
Also for Wellesley, sophomore
Alexandria Lee is 22nd with a first-round score of 92, while sophomore
Michelle Brann and senior
Young Hsu each shot 93's to tie for 24th.
Rounding out the Blue golfers at the event, first-year
Lei Wei shot a 97, sophomore
Isabella Dougherty carded a 99, while sophomore
Haneen Anbarserri recorded a 113.
The tournament continues tomorrow morning with the second and final round beginning at 9:00am.
