Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Wellesley College volleyball team split two matches against tough regional opponents at Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Blue opened the day with a 3-0 win over Coast Guard, before falling 3-0 to #25 Bowdoin.
The split sets Wellesley's season mark to 22-3 overall.
Against Coast Guard, Wellesley got wins in three tight sets to record their second victory over the Bears this season. The Blue won with set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 26-24.
Wellesley was paced by a 10-kill, 15-assist performance from senior Isabel Custodio and a nine-kill, .615-hitting percentage effort from junior Kira Jordan. The Blue also received nine kills from sophomore Sydney Carfagno and seven from junior Kellyn O'Brady.
Also against Coast Guard, Hilary Ayers racked up a match-high of 24 assists to go along with eight digs. Senior Vivian Hu led the defense with 18 digs, while Carfagno added 16. Sophomore Caitlin Laughlin led the Blue at the net with three blocks.
Wellesley was unable to carry the momentum from the Coast Guard victory into the Bowdoin match, suffering their first 3-0 loss of the season. The Polar Bears recorded just eight total hitting errors, winning the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18.
Carfagno led the Blue with 10 kills on the night, while also recorded nine digs. Custodio picked up six kills, 12 assists and 12 digs, while O'Brady added five kills. Ayers led the offense with 14 assists. Hu finished the match with 12 digs to pace the defense.
Wellesley returns home on Tuesday, hosting NEWMAC-rival Wheaton at 7:00pm for senior day.
