Box Score 2 BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Wellesley College volleyball team finished as runner-up at the 2012 Seven Sisters Championship. The Blue opened the day with a 3-0 sweep over Smith, but dropped a nail biter, 3-2, to Vassar in what would be the championship match.
Wellesley seniors Isabel Custodio and Vivian Hu were named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament team, following today's matches. The Blue's split today sets their season mark to 20-2.
In the opener against Smith, Wellesley came away with an easy 3-0 win with set scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-21. Custodio led the Blue with a fantastic performance, tallying 10 kills with no errors for a .500 hitting percentage. She also recorded 13 assists and seven digs in the match.
Courtney Lang also played error-less volleyball recording six kills, hitting .400. Kellyn O'Brady rounded out the hitting leaders with six kills of her own. Hilary Ayers recorded a team-high of 16 assists, while Hu led the Blue with 13 digs.
In the championship match against Vassar, the Brewers came out on top of an extremely tight match with each set being decided by just two points. Final set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13.
Sydney Carfagno picked up 17 kills on the day, while recording 14 digs. Custodio had another solid hitting performance with eight kills and just one error, while also tallying 23 assists and nine digs. O'Brady picked up eight kills, while Caitlin Laughlin added seven kills and three bocks.
Rounding out the box score against Vassar, Ayers tallied 23 assists and three aces, while Hu again led the team defensively, recording 27 digs.
Wellesley now returns to conference play, traveling to Clark University on Tuesday, facing the Cougars at 7:00pm.
