BRONX, N.Y. -- The Wellesley College golf team finished a consistent weekend with a seventh place finish at the 2012 NYU Invitational. The event wrapped up at the par-72, 5,995-yard Split Rock Golf Course, and was held at the Pelham Bay Golf Course on Saturday.
Wellesley shot a 342 as a team, just a stroke behind day one's total of 341. The Blue ranked seventh overall and third among the seven Liberty League teams in the tournament. Williams won the event with a two-day score of 624, 16 strokes in front of second-place Middlebury.
Among Liberty League foes, Wellesley stood behind only NYU (5th- 315) and Vassar (6th- 666). The Blue topped St. Lawrence (8th- 688), Mount Holyoke (10th- 741), William Smith (12th- 745), and Union (13th- 850).
Individually, junior Alexandra Fuiks led the Blue with an 18th-place finish. After shooting an 83 on day one, she carded an 82 on day two to move up two spots in the rankings. Right behind Fuiks, sophomore Alexandria Lee recorded scores of 82 and 84, finishing in 24th place overall.
Wellesley's first year duo of Bristol Gunderson and Lei Wei were the next two Blue finishers. Gunderson shot her low round of the year, an 86, to go along with her day one 90, to rank 39th. Wei tallied scorecards of 86 and 92 to end the tournament in 41st place.
Sophomore Michelle Brann wrapped up her weekend by shaving four strokes off of her day one total, ending with scores of 94 and 90, to rank a solid 50th overall.
Wellesley golf next heads to the Mount Holyoke Invitational, at the Orchards Golf Club on September 22nd and 23rd.
