Williams Too Much for Wellesley Lacrosse

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Wellesley College lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 contest to Williams College to open their spring training trip to the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. The loss dips the Blue to 3-2 overall, while the Ephs improve to 3-1.

Williams dominated the first half, scoring the first nine goals and never looking back. Nancy Palmer scored twice for the Ephs in the half, while Hilary Cook also added a two-goal effort in the period. 

Wellesley broke through on the scoreboard on an unassisted tally from senior Meredith Roy with 5:21 on the clock to make it 9-1. Williams then added three straight goals to set the halftime score to 12-1.

Williams added to the lead with the first three goals of the second half, extending their lead to 15-1. The Blue did not go down without a fight however, as Wellesley scored three straight to bring the score to 15-4. Junior Brit Mscisz scored twice during the stretch for Wellesley, while first-year Cassidy Jemo found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.

The Ephs scored the next two goals to go up 17-4 before Wellesley senior Meagan Fuchs scored the final goal of the game to set the final to 17-5. 

Cook and Palmer led the Williams attack, each scoring two goals and adding two assists. Rebecca McGovern, Maeve Mulholland, Molly Belk and Anne Rehfuss all added two goals to aid the victory. Emily Whicker led the team with three draw controls, while Alyssa Amos and Emily Gerber each recorded three ground balls.

Wellesley was paced by Mscisz who picked up two goals and an assist, while Roy added a score and a helper to go along with a team-high three draw controls. Defensively, senior Alyssa Andres picked up three ground balls, while junior Tya Logan made 11 saves in goal.

The Blue are back in action in Florida on Wednesday, playing Conn. College at 10:00am.
