Second Half Surge Leads Babson Over Blue Lacrosse

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Babson College lacrosse team used a strong second half effort to overtake host Wellesley College, as the Beavers topped the Blue, 15-6, in NEWMAC action in Wellesley. The win lifts Babson to 2-4 overall, 1-0 in the NEWMAC, while Wellesley dips to 3-4, 0-1 in NEWMAC play.

Wellesley scored the first goal of the game, an unassisted tally from Brit Mscisz, three minutes into play, before Babson struck for four straight goals. Rachel Secrist scored twice during the Beaver surge, while McKenzie Tucci and Taylor Kralovenec also added goals to make it 4-1. Wellesley cut the lead to 4-2 with a score from Cassidy Jemo, but the Beavers answered with scores from Jameson Sprang and Kralovenec to push their lead to 6-2 with 3:11 left in the half.

The teams traded goals over the final two minutes of the period, making it 7-3 Beavers at the break. Mscisz added her second score of the game for Wellesley, while Babson's Kristina Simonson scored Babson's seventh of the half.

Babson held a 14-6 advantage in shots at the break, but Blue goalie Tya Logan posted nine first-half saves to keep the game close. Babson scored early and often in the second half, finally putting the game out of reach.

The Beavers struck for four unanswered goals to open up an 11-3 advantage with just six minutes off the clock in the second. Kralovenec scored twice during the stretch, while Tucci and Sprang also added goals.

Wellesley scored twice in the next 10 minutes, but each time, Babson answered with a pair of goals to increase their advantage. At 15:50, Wellesley's Meredith Roy found the back of the net for the Blue, but was answered with two straight goals from Rachel Secrist. Then at 7:33, Mscisz tallied for the Blue, but again, the Beavers answered with goals from Secrist and Tucci to make it 15-5 with 5:36 to play.

Wellesley added a free-position goal from Chesley Hooker with 3:14 to play, but Babson played keep-away over the last three minutes, setting the final score to 15-6 in favor of the Beavers.

Babson's Kralovenec recorded nine points off of four goals and five assists, while also adding a game-high seven ground balls. Secrist scored five times and added a helper, while Tucci finished the afternoon with three goals. Sprang (two goals) and Simonson (one goal) completed the Beaver scoring.

Misha Beatty recorded a team-high four draw controls and added two ground balls, while Sprang rounded out the box score with three ground balls and two draw controls. In goal for the Beavers, Julia Baharestani needed just two saves to earn the victory.

For Wellesley, Mscisz finished with three goals, while Roy, Hooker and Jemo, added the other Blue offense. Ellie Mannon finished the day with a team-high three ground balls, while Roy recorded four draw controls. Logan played well in net for the Blue, recording a career-high 18 saves.

Wellesley is back in action on Thursday at 4:00pm at New England College, while plays Tuesday at Roger Williams at 5:00pm.
