Wellesley Softball Records Split on Day Two in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Wellesley College softball team recorded another spring training split on day two of the team's trip to the National Training Center. The Blue opened the day with a 7-3 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), but fell in game two, 7-0, to #11 St. Thomas (Minn.).

The Blue are now 2-2 on the season with four games remaining in Florida.

Against RIT, Wellesley fell behind 1-0, but rebounded to score five runs in the bottom of the second. RIT closed the gap with a pair in the third, but the Blue added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth and then held on to seal the 7-3 victory.

The Blue recorded eight total hits in the game, led by junior
Maria LaBouyer who was 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Senior Jennifer Migliore and junior Abby Casey each drove in a pair of runs to bolster the offense.

Also against RIT, sophomores Jaclyn Tsang and Carly Bresee drove in runs, while junior Emilyrose Havrilla added a double. In the circle, sophomore Amber Braun picked up the win throwing seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, nationally-ranked St. Thomas proved to be too much for the Blue. The Tommies piled on 11 hits and added seven stolen bases to nab the 7-0 victory.

Wellesley started the game on a good note, as Tsang hit a lead-off triple into the gap. Three hard-hit balls followed, but the Blue were unable to squeeze past a run. In the third inning, Wellesley's Tsang reached on a fielder's choice after a Mariah Philips single. Tsang stole a pair of bases putting a runner on third with two outs, but St. Thomas escaped without allowing a run.

Wellesley also rallied in the top of the seventh, loading the bases on a Jayne Ellis walk, a Migliore single and a St. Thomas error. However, the Tommies again shut the Blue down, gunning a runner down at home and then forcing a deep fly out to end the 7-0 game.

Wellesley has tomorrow off, but will return to action on Tuesday with a pair of games. The Blue open with Wisconsin-Oshkosh and then take on Buena Vista.
