Game One - Saint Joseph's College 10, Western Connecticut 0 

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Saint Joseph's College of Maine got a two-hit shut out from Rae-Marie Copan and a five-RBI performance from Lindsay Moore, as the Monks cruised to a 10-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University in the first game of the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball Wellesley Regional. 

Saint Joseph's improves to 34-4 and advances to tomorrow's winners bracket game at 11:00am. The Colonials' record now stands at 31-12-1, with Western heading to an elimination game tomorrow at 1:30pm.

Copan tossed a gem for the Monks, throwing seven innings allowing just a pair of hits. She struck out two and walked one to improve to 17-2 on the season. At the plate, Moore led Saint Joseph's with a 3-for-4 performance, including a home run, while driving in five runs. 

Saint Joseph's loaded the bases in the top of the second, as Gleason, Murphy, and Ramos all drew walks. Western reliever Alle Sabith needed just one pitch to get out of the jam, however, coming in and forcing a fly out to end the threat.

Saint Joseph's Lindsay Moore got the Monks on the board in the top of the third. The senior blasted a 2-2 pitch to center field for her second home run of the year, giving the team a 1-0 lead. 

The Monks tacked on three more in the top of the fifth, stringing together four singles and a walk. Kim Jordan led off the inning with an infield single and was followed by a single to right from Mariah Harrison. Aggressive base-running by the Monks saw Jordan take third on the single and score on a a Western miscue to make it 2-0. A walk and another infield single loaded the no outs, before Theresa Hendrix poked a single through the middle, scoring two runs, making it 4-0. Western got out of the inning without further damage, as a double play and a ground out ended the Monks half of the frame. 

Saint Joseph's added to its lead in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on three hits to make it 6-0. Ramos led off the inning with a walk, while Tripp followed with an infield single. A pair of groundouts followed, before Moore singled down the left field line, plating both Ramos and Moore. After another infield single, Western forced a fly out to end the threat. 

The visitors continued the scoring in the top of the seventh, adding four more runs. Harrison and Moore did the damage in the frame, each recording two-RBI singles to make it 10-0 Monks.

Nina Wojtkiewicz and Erin Weber accounted for the only Western offense in the game, each contributing singles. Sabith suffered the loss for the Colonials, tossing four and a third, allowing six runs on nine hits with three walks. Emily Cintorino got the start for Western, and later re-entered, totaling two and a third, allowing four runs on three hits with five walks. Kristen Sliman threw a third of an inning in relief, recording a strikeout.
