HARTFORD, Conn. – Wellesley College swimming & diving closed out first semester action on Friday evening at Trinity College (Conn.), defeating the host Bantams, 135-107, while falling to New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wheaton, 151-89, in a tri-dual match-up. Wellesley is now 3-2 overall in dual meets.

First year Noelle Bergere (Madison, Conn.) earned her first career victory for the Blue in 3-meter diving, finishing with a score of 253.28. Bergere was also fourth in 1-meter diving with a score of 179.17. 

The Blue opened the evening with a second place performance in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomores Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Danielle Peterson (Livingston, N.J.), and first years Emma Helmich (Huntington, Ind.) and Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished just tenths of a second behind first place Wheaton with a time of 1:55.41. Peterson, Helmich, first year Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn.), and Yeager also took second in the final event, the 200 Free Relay, with a time of 1:44.20. 

Yeager returned following the 200 Medley Relay to take second in the 200 Free, leading a 2-3-4 Wellesley finish with a time of 2:02.33. Junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J.) and Svensson followed in third and fourth with times of 2:03.62 and 2:06.36, respectively. Svensson also added a runner-up time near the end of the evening, finishing second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:41.26. Yeager was also fifth in the 100 Back with a time of 1:04.30.

Helmich's second race of the evening was the 50 Free, where the Blue first year finished in 26.37 to take fourth. Peterson also added a fourth place finish in her second race, cruising to a time of 1:04.64 in the 100 IM. Peterson then went on to take third in the 100 Free with a mark of 56.60. Feng also recorded a third place time in the 100 Fly later in the evening, leading the Blue with a time of 1:02.00.

Also in action on Friday, first year Jessica Li (Glastonbury, Conn.) had a fifth place showing in the 100 Free, finishing in 12:19.16, a little over half a minute ahead of teammate Veronica Pawlik (Teaneck, N.J.) in sixth. Wellesley also posted a third place finish in the 100 Breast, where first year Jessica Wu (Palo Alto, Calif.) posted a time of 1:13.52. 

Wellesley will break for exams before returning home to host two meets in three days at Chandler Pool. Wellesley welcomes Babson and Coast Guard on January 11 and Smith on January 13. Both meets will begin at 1:00 PM.
