Hoover Scores Late Equalizer in Blue Soccer's 1-1 Draw with Emerson

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Kelly Hoover (Austin, Texas) scored her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute to lift Wellesley College soccer to a 1-1 tie with Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Wellesley is now 3-8-2 on the season and 0-5-2 in conference play. Emerson is now 7-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Emerson got on the board first in the 18th minute when senior Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) scored her fourth of season by picking up a blocked shot from sophomore Modesty Sanchez (Lakewood, Calif.). The Lions held on to the 1-0 lead heading into halftime, with an 8-0 advantage in shots. However, Hoover tied the game for the Blue, 1-1, when she came up with the ball following a scramble in front in the 84th minute. The goal stood as the final of the game as neither team scored in either overtime period.

Emerson outshot Wellesley, 16-8 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 14-4. Wellesley junior goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made three saves in the contest and is now 3-8-2 on the season. Emerson first year goalkeeper Megan Rose (Danville, Calif.) recorded five saves and is now 5-5-1.

Both teams will play again on Tuesday, October 16. Wellesley will host Clark University at 3:00 PM and Emerson will host Coast Guard at 7:00 PM.
