WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) recorded her second hat trick of the season to lead Wellesley College field hockey to a commanding 6-1 non-conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Butler Stadium. 

The Blue, who also got a pair of goals from junior Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.), improve to 9-8 overall and 6-5 on the team's home turf. UMass Dartmouth is now 7-10 overall and 2-7 away from home. 

Following a scoreless first period, junior Brittany Perry (Dighton, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game for the Corsairs, giving the guests a 1-0 lead just 1:38 into the second period. King answered back quickly for the Blue, scoring her first of the game just over four minutes later when she curled a shot in front around Corsair goalkeeper junior Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) to make the score 1-1. King's first goal of the day was the first of six straight Blue tallies.

Dennis put her first goal of the game into the back of the cage at 27:15 on a set-up by junior Danielle Brubaker (Princeton Junction, N.J.) at the top of the circle. Wellesley took the 2-1 lead into the break. 

King scored her second goal of the game 3:03 into the third, capitalizing on a pass down low from sophomore Julia Rappaport (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) to increase the Blue lead to 3-1. Dennis completed her hat trick with back-to-back goals to bring the score to 5-1 at 52:47. First year Amy Kate Williams (Greenville, S.C.) picked up an assist on Dennis' second goal in the final minute of the third. Dennis then added her third, beating Banalewicz with a hard shot from the top at 52:47. 

Senior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) completed the scoring at 53:54, redirecting a drive from classmate Clare Doyle (Louisville, Ky.) into the cage on a Blue penalty corner. Maisano scored her tenth goal of the season on the play, while Doyle registered her first career point in 48 career games in Blue. 

Wellesley finished the game with a 24-6 advantage in shots. The Blue also earned nine penalty corner chances while holding the Corsairs to just two. Junior Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made one save in 45 minutes in the Wellesley goal to improve to 9-8 overall. First year Eleanor Rothera (Lusby, Md.) played the final 15 minutes in the Wellesley goal. Banalewicz had nine saves in the setback for UMD (7-10). 

Wellesley will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 2, with a 12:00 PM New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at Wheaton. UMass Dartmouth will host Framingham St. in the team's regular season finale on Friday, November 1, at 4:00 PM.
