COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nine members of Wellesley College field hockey have earned places on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The NFHCA recognized more than 1,800 outstanding undergraduate student-athletes from 147 institutions.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, celebrates the academic excellence of undergraduate collegiate student-athletes. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon individuals who have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current academic year, and who have been nominated by their dedicated NFHCA member coaches.

Senior Ceci Miller (Lewiston, Maine) has earned the honor for a third consecutive year. Junior Marguerite Greene (Boston, Mass.) has collected a second career Academic Squad accolade.

Sophomores Rachel Carson (Mays Landing, N.J.), Gabi Chen (Mountain View, Calif.), Madeline Hamstra (Houston, Texas), Annika Schermerhorn (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas), Claudia Summers (San Diego, Calif.) and Sam Welin (Oak Park, Ill.) all made the list in their first year of eligibility.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
