Wellesley to Host Emerson Thursday in NEWMAC Volleyball Semifinals

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Second-seeded Wellesley College will welcome sixth-seeded Emerson College in the semifinals of the 2019 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Championship tournament on Thursday, November 7, at 7:00 PM at Wellesley's Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Thursday's semifinal meeting will be the first postseason meeting ever between the two programs. Wellesley swept past WPI, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-21), on Tuesday evening to advance to the conference semifinals for the third consecutive season. Emerson, who joined the NEWMAC in 2013, advanced to the semifinals with a 3-2 (17-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-11) comeback win over No. 3 MIT on Tuesday night in Cambridge. The game was the first NEWMAC postseason match in Emerson program history.

Wellesley defeated Emerson, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21), in the only regular season meeting between the two teams this season. The Blue enter Thursday's match with a 25-game home court winning streak, the fourth longest streak in the nation, while Emerson is 9-5 on the road in 2019. 

The Blue will be looking to make the program's first trip to the NEWMAC title game since 2017 with a win on Thursday. The 2019 NEWMAC Championship match will take place on Saturday, November 9, at 1:00 PM at the campus of the highest remaining seed in the tournament. 


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
