WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer (5-5-2 Overall, 1-3-1 NEWMAC) fell 1-0 to NEWMAC foe Coast Guard Academy (2-7-3 Overall, 2-2-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Coast Guard struck in the 67th minute. The Bears were awarded a free kick from the left flank just outside the box. First-year Isabella Brittian (Woodbridge, Va.) took the kick and sent a high, bending ball that went over the Wellesley keeper and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Junior Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) finished with 10 saves for Wellesley. Senior Emily Scharnitzky (Charleston, S.C.) made three saves in the shutout.
Coast Guard attempted 20 shots, with 12 on goal, while Wellesley took eights shots with three on goal. The Bears held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams will travel for NEWMAC matchups on Wednesday, October 16. The Blue play Smith at 3:00 PM while the Bears face off with MIT at 5:00 PM.
