BABSON PARK, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey (9-7 Overall, 4-3 NEWMAC) was defeated by No. 7 Babson College (13-3 Overall, 7-0 NEWMAC), 4-1, in a NEWMAC contest on Tuesday at MacDowell Field.
The home team scored a pair in the first quarter and one in the second to lead 3-0 at the half. Sophomore Helen DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.), senior Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) each scored for Babson.
After a scoreless third, Caroline DiGiovanni found the back of the cage, less than a minute into the fourth, four a 4-0 advantage.
The Blue got on the board, five minutes later, when senior
River Schiff (Potomac, Md.) scored off an assist from first-year
Claudia Summers (San Diego, Calif.).
Senior Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) earned the victory with a pair of saves. Wellesley first-year
Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) tied a season-high with eight saves. Senior
Eleanor Wenners (Rye, N.H.) also prevented a goal with a defensive save.
Wellesley finished the game with a 7-6 edge in penalty corners.
Both teams next play on Saturday, October 26. Wellesley celebrates Senior Day at home against Clark University at 1:00 PM. Babson travels to MIT for a 12:00 PM matchup.
