Wellesley Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Game to Clark on Senior Day

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Ciaran Cubbage (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored the lone goal for Clark University in a 1-0 NEWMAC win over Wellesley College field hockey (9-8 Overall, 4-4 NEWMAC) at Butler Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to the game Wellesley acknowledged five seniors for their contributions to the Blue. The seniors honored were Camille Newman (New York, N.Y.), Sara Maniscalco (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Maya Benway (Harvard, Mass.), Penny Juarez (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Eleanor Wenners (Rye, N.H.).

Cubbage redirected a shot into the back of the cage a minute and 44 seconds into the second half to give the Cougars (8-8 Overall, 3-5 NEWMAC) a 1-0 advantage. Junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia (Ridgefield, Conn.) assisted on the play.

Wellesley outshot Clark 23-5 and earned 17 penalty corners but was unable to get on the scoreboard. Sophomore Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) led all individuals with six shots (three on goal).

Sophomore Rachel Reiter (Millburn, N.J.) saved 13 shots for Clark. First year Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) made a stop for Wellesley.

Next up, Wellesley will conclude the regular season at WPI on Saturday, November 2 at 3:00 PM. Clark's final regular season game is at home on Saturday, November 2 versus Springfield College at 2:00 PM.
