Blue Field Hockey Edged by No. 16 MIT, 3-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey was edged by No. 16 MIT, 3-2, in a NEWMAC night game at Butler Stadium on Tuesday.

With less than two minutes to play in a 2-2 game, MIT (8-3 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC) sophomore Audrey Oh (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched the game-winner off a feed from sophomore Ingrid Tomovski (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands).

The Blue (8-4 Overall, 3-1 NEWMAC) opened the scoring at 9:44 in the first when first-year Annika Schermerhorn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) eluded a defender and shot past the goalie into the back of the cage.

The visitors answered with a pair of goals by junior Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.) and Oh before the end of the first for a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless second frame, Wellesley tied the contest 1:29 into the third quarter on senior Sara Maniscalco's (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) first goal of the season.

First-year Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished the game with eight saves for Wellesley. Sophomore Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) had four stops to earn the win for MIT.

Both teams are in action on Saturday, October 12. The Blue will welcome Springfield College to Butler Stadium at 12:00 PM while the Engineers host WPI at 1:00 PM.
