Blue Soccer Draws with UMass Boston, 1-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer earned a 1-1 non-conference tie in Wednesday's home opener versus UMass Boston.

The visitors got on the board, 3:10 into the match, with the first career goal by Lucinda Cotter (North Easton, Mass.).

In the 17th minute, the Blue (2-1-1) almost found an equalizer when first-year Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) headed a ball on frame that ricocheted off the crossbar. 

The Beacons (2-0-2) finished the first half with a 12-3 advantage in shots with a 6-0 margin in shots on target. 

Each team had scoring chances in the next half hour, but the match remained a 1-0 lead for the Beacons. 

In the 80th minute, first-year Solveig Unteroberdoerster (Chevy Chase, Md.) brought the Blue even with a shot into the lower corner of the net. Tolosa was credited with a team leading fourth assist this season. 

Wellesley junior goalie Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) finished with six saves, while senior Isabella O'Connell (Abington, Mass.) made five saves for the Beacons. 

UMass Boston held an 18-12 edge in shots and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. 

Up next, the Blue compete at Western New England University on Saturday, September 14 at 12:00 PM. The Beacons travel to Westfield State University for a 7:00 PM matchup on Friday, September 13.
