WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior River Schiff (Potomac, Md.) scored four times to help lift Wellesley College field hockey to an 8-0 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University as part of #EarnTheW Day on Saturday at Butler Stadium.
Early in the first quarter, senior Camille Newman (New York, N.Y.) finished a pass from sophomore Katie Golla (Oak Park, Ill.) to put the Blue on the board.
Less than three minutes later, Wellesley (3-2) doubled its lead with an unassisted goal by first-year Claudia Summers (San Diego, Calif.).
Schiff scored twice in a 1:30 span in the second quarter to give the home team a 4-0 lead at the half.Â
Schiff recorded the hat trick at 10:22 into the third quarter for a 5-0 lead after 45 minutes.Â
The Blue added three more goals in the final quarter to account for the 8-0 final. Schiff, Summers and sophomore Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) each had a goal in the frame.Â
First-year Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earned the shutout with one save for Wellesley. Junior Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) had nine saves in three quarters for Bridgewater State (1-3). Junior Catherine Daoulas (Marshfield, Mass.) allowed three goals with five saves in the fourth.Â
Wellesley outshot the Bears 42-1 and had an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.Â
The Blue will play at home on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 PM versus Bowdoin College. The Bears welcome Salem State University to Bridgewater at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 21.
