WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 3-0 non-conference game to No. 22 Bowdoin College Tuesday night at Butler Stadium.
Junior Mackay Bommer (Rye, N.H.) gave Bowdoin (3-2) a lead, 2:06 into the game, with a score into the left side of the cage. The Polar Bears doubled the lead in the 10th minute on senior Maya Malenfant's (Weston, Mass.) fifth goal of the season.
Bowdoin took a 3-0 lead, 6:32 into the second, on Malenfant's second tally of the game.
The teams played a scoreless second half that was evenly played throughout. Bowdoin held a 5-4 edge in shots and a 4-3 margin in penalty corners in the final 30 minutes.
Wellesley (3-3) first-year goalie Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) played the first hal and made a season best six saves. Classmate Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) played a clean second half with two saves.
Bowdoin junior goalie Lauren O'Donald (West Springfield, Mass.) earned the win with two saves.
The Blue will host Wheaton College to begin NEWMAC competition on Saturday, September 21 at 12:00 PM. The Polar Bears play a 7:00 PM game at Bates College on Tuesday, September 24.
