Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Nichols, 7-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis won its first dual match of the 2024-25 season 7-0 against Nichols College at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts on Saturday. 

The Blue (1-0) started off with a sweep of doubles to go up 1-0. Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and first year Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) picked up a 6-0 win over seniors Johanna Schroeder (Mexico City, Mexico) and Antonia Carrero (Hamburg, Germany) at No. 2 doubles.

First years Kotistha Modak (Chennai, India) and Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) earned a 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles over first year Kamora Helton (Ardmore, Pa.) and sophomore Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi (Mexico City, Mexico). No. 3 doubles had an identical score with sophomore Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and first year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.)  beating senior Kiley O'Brien (Cumberland, R.I.) and sophomore Erin Helly (Glocester, R.I.). 

Corte-Real started the singles wins off for Wellesley with a 6-0, 6-1 performance versus Gonzalez Vallardi at No. 3 singles. Xu pushed the Blue's lead 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Carrero at No. 2 singles. 

Modak picked up a first career win at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 scoreline over Helton. First year Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) clinched the match for Wellesley at No. 4 singles by defeating Schroeder 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomore Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) kept the shutout going by earning a 6-3 7-6(5) point at No. 5 singles against junior Charis Vogler (Brandenburg, Germany). Classmate Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) won 7-6(5), 6-3 at No. 6 singles against sophomore Cora Brosch (Papendorf, Germany).

Next up, the Blue square off with Wheaton in a NEWMAC contest on Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 PM. The Bison host Western New England University on Wednesday, September 25 at 4:00 PM.
