Blue Tennis Earns 7-0 NEWMAC Win over Wheaton

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis swept its NEWMAC match 7-0 versus Wheaton College at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The Blue (2-0 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC) started the match by shutting out the Lyons (0-2 Overall, 0-1 NEWMAC) in doubles to go up 1-0.

Wellesley sophomore Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and first year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) defeated juniors Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and Alyssa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) with a 6-1 scoreline at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) won a 6-1 set over sophomore Asia Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) and Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.). 

Sophomore Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and first year Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) played at No. 3 doubles and picked up a 6-2 win versus sophomore Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) and first year Maya Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.).

Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and Mariotti scored points for the Blue with spotless 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and 6 singles.

Patel clinched the match for Wellesley by beating Ortiz 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Sarav soon followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 performance against Wilson at No. 5 singles.

Khera and first year Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) finished off the sweep. Khera won 6-4, 6-1 versus Hollis at No. 4 singles and Buttorff took a  6-1, 6-3 decision against Haraj-Sai at No. 2 singles.

Wellesley wraps up its fall season by welcoming Emerson College at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 2. Wheaton hosts Assumption University on Monday, September 30 at 4:00 PM.
