WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer earned a 1-0 non-conference victory over Curry College on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Olivia Chow-Gillette (Dallas, Texas), the reigning NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week, netted the lone goal of the contest in the 13th minute. Junior Reika Ishibe (Guilford, Conn.) sent a pass over the Curry defenders towards the endline. Chow-Gillette gathered the ball and took a tough angle shot that found the inside of the far corner of the net. The assist was the first of Ishibe's career.
Wellesley (4-3-1 Overall, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) had a 7-6 edge in total shots in the opening 45 minutes, while Curry (3-3-2 Overall) had a 5-2 advantage in shots on target. The Colonels took the lone corner kick of the half.Â
Junior goalie Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) made 10 stops to earn a second shutout of the season for Wellesley. Junior goalie Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) fell to 1-1 on the season with three saves for the Colonels.Â
The visitors finished with a 16-15 margin in shots and 10-5 in shots on goal. Curry also had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.Â
Wellesley plays a 1:00 PM NEWMAC game at Wheaton College on Saturday, September 28. Curry hosts Endicott College at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 27.
