WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey dropped its home opener to No. 6 Tufts University at Butler Stadium on Wednesday.
First year Eleanor Luft (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game for the Jumbos (1-0). Luft recorded a first career goal with five minutes left in the first quarter.
The Blue (1-1) stood its ground defensively, only allowing a single goal off of 21 shots. First year goalie Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) stopped six shots in goal while classmate Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) made two saves. Sophomore Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) had the lone shot on goal attempt for Wellesley.
Tufts keeper Lydia Eastburn (New Hope, Pa.) earned one save in the shutout. The Jumbos attempted five penalty corners as a team.
Up next, Wellesley travels to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) on Saturday, September 7 at 12:30 PM. The Jumbos head to Williams College at 1:00 PM on the same day.
