SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A pair of fourth quarter goals handed Springfield College a 2-0 win over Wellesley College field hockey in a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday at Stagg Field.
After three scoreless periods of play, junior Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) broke the stalemate for the Pride (8-5 Overall, 3-2 NEWMAC) nine minutes and 54 seconds into the fourth quarter.Â
Two minutes later, first-year Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) tacked on a second goal for the hosts, on a shot assisted by senior Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.). 10 seconds prior to the goal, Blue first-year Sebastian Limkakeng (Cary, N.C.) to keep the play alive.
Sophomore Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) made five saves for the Blue (4-8 Overall, 2-3 NEWMAC). First-year Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) didn't allow any goals for Springfield, earning five saves and a clean sheet.
Up next, Wellesley travels to Endicott College for a non-conference game at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15. Springfield is on the road at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, September 18, beginning at 12:00 PM.
