BEVERLY, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey fell 5-0 in a non-conference game to No. 10 Endicott College at North Field on Wednesday. The Gulls improved to 14-1 on the year while the Blue dropped to 4-9.
After a scoreless opening period, the Gulls scored with roughly four minutes left in the half. A penalty corner resulted in a goal when senior Reagan Hicks (Barstable, Mass.) knocked in a 14 goal of the season off of a pass from sophomore Riley Perkins (Lakeville, Mass.).
Endicott converted on a second penalty corner two minutes later. This time, senior Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.) dealt the scoring blow while Hicks recorded the assist.
Hicks put in another goal at the opener of the third to give Endicott a three goal lead. At the tail end of the quarter, classmate Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) was set up by Perkins and found the back of the cage.
Hicks made it a hat-trick in the opening minute of the fourth to bring the score up to 5-0, where it remained through the final horn.
Sophomore Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) stopped 12 shots for Wellesley in the first 45 minutes, including a 100th career save. First-year Katelyn Hurt (Carrollton, Texas) made a trio of saves in the final quarter.
Sophomore Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) stopped both shots on goal for the Gulls.
On Saturday, October 18, the Blue will host Smith College for Senior Day at 1:00 PM. The Gulls take on Roger Williams University at home on that same date and time.
