WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer scored a 3-0 victory over NEWMAC rival Wheaton College and improved to 6-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play on Saturday. The loss drops the Lyons to 6-5-0 in 2025 and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.
Prior to the game, the Blue recognized the contributions of seven seniors - Sascha Fleesler (Milford, Pa.), Reika Ishibe (Guilford, Conn.), Kyra Narunatvanich (Naperville, Ill.), Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.), Elina Saab-Sundén (Palo Alto, Calif.), Alisha Faheem (New York, N.Y.) and Ella Hong (Buffalo Grove, Ill.).
Wellesley only needed eight minutes to start the scoring. Ishibe rebounded a shot by sophomore Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) and fired in a ball to the right side of the net. Tolosa leads the team with five assists this season.
The Blue doubled the margin 3:44 into the second half. A scramble a few feet from the goal saw senior Elina Saab-Sundén (Palo Alto, Calif.) take a shot off of the hands of Wheaton's keeper. Blue first-year Elena Garcia (Atlanta, Ga.) collected the bouncing ball and sent it into the net for a 2-0 lead and a fourth tally in 2025.
The third and final notch from Wellesley came at 72:10. Sophomore Solveig Unteroberdoerster (Washington, D.C.) dribbled into the box and curled in a shot to put the game firmly out of reach.
McNair made nine saves and kept a clean sheet for a ninth career shutout. The senior moved into 10th place in Blue program history with 197 career saves.
Senior Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) sent back 13 of 16 shots on goal for Wheaton.
Wellesley held a 27-16 shot advantage while Wheaton took all four of the games' corner kicks.
Each team will compete in conference play on Wednesday, October 15. The Blue are on the road at 6:00 PM against WPI. Wheaton remains home to welcome Springfield College at 3:30 PM.
