WORCESTER, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 3-1 NEWMAC contest to Clark University at Granger Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Senior Alison Kopec (Redding, Conn.) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (8-8 Overall, 1-6 NEWMAC). Junior goalkeeper Rachel Reiter (Millburn, N.J.) stopped 13 out of 14 shots on goal in the win.
Nine minutes into the second quarter, senior Morgan Brown (Homer, N.Y.) flicked an over the shoulder shot into the cage to put the Cougars on the board. An assist was awarded to Kopec.
Kopec added the second tally early in the fourth quarter. Five minutes later, a penalty corner led to a score from first-year Carys Mitchell (Holderness, N.H.).
The Blue (5-10 Overall, 3-4 NEWMAC) saw its lone goal come in the final minute of play. Sophomore Madeline Hamstra (Houston, Texas) connected on a second goal of the season for Wellesley.
Sophomore Hannah Simmons (Austin, Texas) earned nine saves for the Blue while first-year Sebastian Limkakeng (Cary, N.C.) registered a defensive save.
Both teams will compete in conference matchups on Saturday, October 25. The Blue will host WPI at 12:00 PM as part of Friends and Family Weekend. The Cougars play a 1:00 PM game at Mount Holyoke College.
