BRUNSWICK, Maine – Wellesley College golf is in fourth place out of 14 teams after day one of the Polar Bear Shootout at the Brunswick Golf Club.
Wellesley combined for a team score of 299 (+7) and is one shot behind Amherst (298, +6) and two shots behind Wesleyan (297, +5). Williams currently leads the tournament with a score of 285 (-7). Babson is close behind Wellesley in fifth place, just two shots back at 301 (+9).
The par-73 layout features a front nine with four par 5s, three par 4s and two par 3s for a par of 38. The back is par 35 with one par 5, two par 3s and six par 4s.
First-year
Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) finished day one in third place out of 86 players with an impressive 3-under 70. Li, who is one of six players under par, registered five birdies and two bogeys to lead the Blue.
Sophomore
Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) was 2-over with a 75. Boyd had a pair of birdies and four bogeys to place t-19th at the conclusion of Saturday.
Junior
Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) shot a 76 (+3) on the 5,702-yard setup. Lewis had a birdie on each side to help record a couple of 38s. Lewis is currently t-22nd.
Junior
Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) carded a 78 (+5) after a front nine of 37 and a back nine of 41. Sun had three birdies and is in a tie for 30th.
Junior
Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) came away with an 81 (+8) and is in t-38th place.
First-year
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and first-year
Allyson Duan (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) also competed as individuals. Lee posted a 78 (+5), while Duan shot an 81 (+8). Lee is in t-30th and Duan is t-38th.
Day two of the competition starts tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM.
