CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey took a 4-0 loss in its regular season finale at MIT on Saturday. The win improves the Engineers to 11-6 Overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Blue closed out the regular season at 6-12 Overall and 3-6 in the NEWMAC.
The Blue have now earned the sixth seed in the NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship bracket and will head back to third seeded MIT on Tuesday, November 4 at a time to be announced.
With 37 seconds left in the first half, senior Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.) gave MIT its first goal, off of a pass from first-year Meredith Wu (Southborough, Mass.).Â
Late in the third quarter, Tech added two more goals, courtesy of sophomore Drew Hussar (Dover, Mass.) and junior Janie Thomas (Houston, Texas). Wu registered a second assist of the contest.
Thomas put the finishing touches on with a second goal four minutes into the fourth to make it 4-0 for the hosts. MIT took 18 shots while limiting Wellesley to two.
First-year Sebastian Limkakeng (Cary, N.C.) tallied a defensive save for the visitors. Sophomore Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) played the first 45 minutes, stopping eight shots in the cage. First-year Katelyn Hurt (Carrollton, Texas) saw action in the final quarter.
