Basketball Falls 76-57 to Saint Joseph's Maine in Consolation Game of Shooting Touch Tournament

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Wellesley College basketball came up short, 76-57, to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the consolation game of the Shooting Touch Tournament at Williams College on Saturday

The Monks (4-5) leading scorer was senior Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine). Brown scored 21 points, including five three pointers. Senior Elisabeth Stapelfield (Brookline, N.H.) and sophomore Hayden Madore (Hallowell, Maine) each ended the game in double figures, with Stapelfield supplying six assists. Senior Madison Lebel (Hermon, Maine) grabbed 10 rebounds.

Junior Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.) went 7-for-10 from the field with 18 points for the Blue (3-4). Barrow snatched four steals and is now tied for ninth in Blue history with 165 career steals. Sophomore Ava Shane (Plano, Texas) supplied 16 points and six rebounds. First-year Tanvi Agarwal (Woodinville, Wash.) tallied a dozen points.

The Monks led 25-18 after a high-scoring opening frame. While Wellesley led 14-11 after six minutes, SJC notched 14 of the final 18 points of the quarter, including a trio of late three-pointers.

After back-and-forth play for much of the second quarter, Wellesley cut the deficit to four at 35-31 with 3:06 on the clock, courtesy of a layup in the paint from Barrow. The Monks went on a 6-2 run from there to end the first half up 41-33.

Saint Joseph's opened the second half on an 11-2 run to put distance between the two squads. A jumper and a foul shot from Agarwal late kept the Blue competitive, trailing 54-41 with 10 minutes to go.

The Blue was unable to get back with a 12 in the final quarter, with the Monks' high octave offense propelling them to a 76-57 victory.

Next up, Wellesley returns to Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse to host Elms College at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 10. The Monks next play on Monday, December 29 at Pomona-Pitzer in California.
