WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 12 Wellesley College tennis routed NEWMAC opponent Salve Regina University, 7-0, at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Saturday. The win marked the eighth in a row for the Blue (12-1 Overall, 5-0 NEWMAC), the team's longest streak since the 2006-07 season. The Seahawks fell to 4-8 Overall, 1-2 NEWMAC on the season.
Wellesley cruised through doubles with 6-1 scores at all three doubles positions.
Sophomores Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) downed sophomores Stephanie Davis (Kinnelon, N.J.) and Kaydin Pinto (Acushnet, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles.Â
Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and first Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) pushed past senior Natalia Vega (Speonk, N.Y.) and sophomore Madigan Murphy (York, Maine) at the second spot.Â
First years Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) and Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) took a decision over seniors Natalie Barros (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Elena Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) at No. 3.
First year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) opened singles with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over Davis at No. 2 singles. Classmate Kotistha Modak (Chennai, India) only dropped a single game in a 6-1, 6-0 match at the top line against Pinto.
Cade confirmed that the win streak would reach eight by grabbing a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win versus Murphy at No. 3.
Junior Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) made quick work of Vega, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 line. Sophomore Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) matched that score at No. 6, picking up the point versus junior Sloane Nelson (Island Heights, N.J.).
Sophomore Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) completed the sweep at No. 5 singles, brushing by Murdock, 6-1, 6-0.
It's a quick turnaround for the Blue, who host New York University in a non-conference match tomorrow at 12:00 PM. The Seahawks play at Babson College on Monday, April 7 at 3:00 PM.
