BOSTON, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer fought to a scoreless draw with UMass Boston on Wednesday night at James Cotter field. The Blue (2-1-1) are the first team to hold the Beacons (3-0-1) scoreless in 2025.
Senior goalie Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) shined bright for the Blue, stopping all nine shots on goal. First-year Janiya Matier (North Easton, Mass.) made a pair of saves for the hosts.
UMass Boston outshot Wellesley 23-8 and held a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
McNair came up clutch in the 49th minute with a 150th career save. Sophomore Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) attempted the shot for the Beacons, placing it low right into the waiting hands of McNair to keep the shutout intact.
The Blue had an opportunity to score late in the affair with a look from sophomore Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) that was saved by Matier. Tolosa was responsible for both shots on goal taken by the Blue.
Wellesley will return home to host UMaine Farmington on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 PM. UMass Boston will be heading to Bates College for a 2:00 PM contest that same day.
