BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey sophomore Annika Schermerhorn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) recorded five points (two goals, one assist) to guide the Blue to a 3-0 victory at Bridgewater State University on Saturday.

Schermerhorn now has three goals this season for the Blue (1-3).

Wellesley got on the board five minutes into the second quarter when Schermerhorn took a ball from senior Ceci Miller (Lewiston, Maine) and pushed it into the cage to give the Blue a lead. Sophomore Gabi Chen (Mountain View, Calif.) was also credited with an assist on the play.

After a scoreless third quarter in which the Blue outshot Bridgewater State 7-0, Wellesley put two goals on the board to secure the 3-0 victory. Junior Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) finished a feed from Schermerhorn less than a minute into the final frame. Schermerhorn then added an insurance goal midway through the quarter off an assist by first-year Nicola Murungi (Montclair, N.J.).

Wellesley sophomore Maddie Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earned the win in goal with one save. In addition to an assist, Chen helped keep the Bears off the scoreboard with a defensive save in the first quarter.

First-year Aubrey Finn (Marshfield, Mass.) finished with 11 saves for the Bears (3-1), while senior Emelia Westwater (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in with a defensive save.

Wellesley will remain on the road on Wednesday, September 17 when it takes on Bowdoin College at 6:00 PM. Bridgewater State treks over to Fitchburg State University for a 7:00 PM contest on Tuesday, September 16.
