WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College golf split a pair of matches on opening day of the Ann S. Batchelder Match Play Championship on Saturday at Nehoiden Golf Club. The Blue earned a 3.5-1.5 victory over Amherst, but fell to Babson 3-2.
In the match against Amherst, the Blue received a pair of strong showings from juniors
Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) and
Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) who each won their matches 5&4. First-year
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) came away with a 3&1 victory at the fifth spot. Sophomore
Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) halved a match at the second spot, while first-year
Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) fought hard but fell 1 DN.
Lewis and Sun accounted for both of the team's points in a close 3-2 loss to Babson to each go 2-0 on the day. Lewis won 6&4 and Sun posted a 5&4 win.
Boyd dropped a close match 2 DN, while Li also played tough but fell 2&1. First-year
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) fell 4&3.
Day two of competition begins tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM.
