MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Wellesley College golf sits one shot behind Amherst after the opening day of the George Phinney Classic hosted by Middlebury at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday.
Wellesley combined for a score of 315 (+31). Amherst leads the tournament with 314 (+30). Middlebury is close behind in third (316, +32), while Hamilton is in fourth place (319, +35). Williams rounds out the top five teams (321, +37) in the 12-team field.
First-year
Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) led the Blue with a 6-over round of 77 and currently sits in a tie for fourth in the 69-player field.
Sophomore
Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) and junior
Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) each came away with a 79 on the difficult par-71, 5,816-yard layout. They are currently tied for 10th.
Junior
Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) posted 40 on each nine to finish with an 80 and is in 15th overall.
Sophomore
Grace Yuan (Beijing, China) rounded out the team lineup with a round of 88, which included a couple of birdies.
First-year
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) competed as an individual and posted an 85 to sit in 38th overall.
The scoring average for day one was 85.97.
Day two of the George Phinney Classic commences tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
