MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Wellesley College golf finished fourth at the George Phinney Classic hosted by Middlebury at Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
Wellesley posted a two-day total of 639 (315, 324). The tournament was won by Amherst with a score of 622 (314, 308). Williams placed second at 629 (321, 308), while Hamilton was two shots ahead of the Blue in third at 637 (319, 318). Middlebury finished fifth at 640 (316, 324) and Bowdoin was sixth in the 12-team field with a score of 641 (324, 317).
After the start of the second round was delayed due to frost, the field was once again met with tough course conditions on the par-71 layout.
First-year
Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) led the Blue for the second straight day. Li shot an 80 after a front nine of 41 and a back nine of 39. Li finished the tournament in a tie for fourth with a two-round total of 157.
Junior
Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) and sophomore
Grace Yuan (Beijing, China) each came away with an 81 on Sunday. Du ended the tournament in a tie for 19th with 161, while Yuan was 40th with a total of 169.
Junior
Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) also finished the weekend in 19th after a Saturday round of 79 and a Sunday round of 82.
Sophomore
Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) posted a 42 on each nine for an 84 in round two. Boyd placed t-21st with a two-day total of 163.
First-year
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) wrapped up play as an individual with an 86 today to place in 41st overall.
The Blue will compete at the Williams Fall Invitational next weekend held at the Taconic Golf Club.
