WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Wellesley College golf is in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Williams Fall Invitational held at the Taconic Golf Club this weekend.
Wellesley combined for a score of 298 (+14) to be in fifth out of the 20-team field. Amherst leads the tournament with a total of 286 (+2) and is followed by Wesleyan and NYU in a tie for second with scores of 293 (+9). Host Williams is in fourth with a team total of 295 (+11) with Wellesley three shots behind the Ephs. Middlebury trails the Blue in sixth place by a couple of shots at 300 (+16).
Junior
Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) posted the best Wellesley round of the afternoon and is in a tie for 10th. Lewis recorded four birdies and finished at +2 (73) on the par-71, 5,826-yard layout.
Junior
Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) is one shot behind Lewis after carding a 74 (+3) and is in a tie for 13th. The highlight of the day was an eagle on the par-5 18th hole. The Blue went a combined 5-under on the 18th hole today.
First-year
Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) sits in t-20th after an even front nine and a 40 on the back to post 75 (+4). Li had three birdies.
Junior
Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) and sophomore
Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) each shot 76 after a 38 on the front and 38 on the back. They are in a tie for 26th in the 98-player field.
