ROME, N.Y. - Wellesley Golf sent a second team to compete at the Hamilton Invitational this weekend held at Rome Country Club.
The Blue squad is in second place out of 10 teams, trailing only the tournament host by five shots. Wellesley had a team score of 309 (+21), while the Continentals shot 304 (+16).
First-years
Alice Chen (Shanghai, China) and
Caris Lee (Los Angeles, Calif.) each carded a 76 for a plus-4 round. The highlight of Chen's round was an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. Lee birdied four of the par 4s to lead the field in scoring on par 4s at -1. Chen and Lee are tied for sixth.
Sophomore
Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) is in eighth place, one shot behind Chen and
Caris Lee with a 77 (+5). Lee began the round by birdieing three of the first five holes.
Senior
Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.) had a birdie on each nine to post an 8-over score of 80. First-year
Madison Soong (Chino Hills, Calif.) also carded an 80 for the pair to be in t-22nd after day one.
First-year
Michelle Su (Clermont, Fla.) birdied two of the par 5s and finished with a 77, competing as an individual. Su is in t-8th.
Sophomore
Allyson Duan (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) also competed as an individual and shot an 83. Duan had a birdie on the par-4 13th and is in t-30th overall.
The second round will begin at 9:30 AM on Sunday.
