Tennis Sweeps Trinity (Conn.) at Home

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis improved to 3-0 in the early stages of the season with a clean 7-0 win against Trinity College (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon inside Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley opened the match by quickly earning the doubles point with 6-0 victories at the No. 2 and 3 lines. Blue junior Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first-year Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) defeated senior Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) and sophomore Kendall Cedar (Houston, Texas) at No. 2. At No. 3, junior Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and first-year Praslin Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) shutout sophomore Julia Clark (Williamsburg, Va.) and first-year Jahnavi Vaghasia (Norwood, N.J.).

No. 1 doubles proved a back-and-forth battle, with Wellesley's senior Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) narrowly inching past junior Naisha Rathi (Westbury, N.Y.) and first-year Emilia Romano (Bayport, N.Y.) with a 7-6(4) tiebreaker set.

The Blue made it 2-0 at No. 2 singles when sophomore Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) only dropped a single game set in a 6-1, 6-1 performance against Rathi.

Xu furthered Wellesley's efforts with a strong 6-2, 6-1 showing at No. 1 singles over senior Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.).

Bian locked up at the match No. 3 singles. After winning all six games of the first set over Cedar, Trinity evened up the match with a 6-4 second. Bian regained rhythm in the third, taking a 6-3 final set to give the Blue its fourth point.

Sophomore Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) added on the fifth point with a strong 6-0, 6-4 performance at No. 4 singles over Brennan.

Junior Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) took out sophomore Brennan Damond (San Francisco, Calif.), 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Pak finished the sweep at No. 5 singles by hanging on to score a 6-1, 7-6(8) win over junior Hellena Trojer (Reading, Mass.).

Wellesley has a quick turnaround, hosting Bates College at 1:00 PM.
