No. 12 Trinity (TX) Sweeps No. 22 Blue Tennis

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 12 Trinity University won 7-0 at home against No. 22 Wellesley College tennis on Wednesday.

Sophomore Allison Vo (Sugar Land, Texas) and first-year Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas) gave Trinity an edge in doubles at the No. 3 line by defeating sophomores Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) and Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.), 6-4.

The Tigers locked up the doubles point at the top spot when the No. 8 ranked team of senior Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif.) and junior Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas) scored a 6-4 win over Wellesley senior Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.).

At No. 2 doubles, Blue junior Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first-year Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) gave the visitors a 6-4 performance over sophomores Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kan.) and Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas).

Tin upped Trinity's lead to 2-0 at No. 3 singles by defeating Patel with 6-4 and 6-2 sets.

No. 48 ranked Kovachev earned a win over Xu at No. 1 to make the match score 3-0. After a 6-1 first set for Kovachev, Xu hung close in the second, losing 7-6(5) to the ranked opponent.

The No. 6 singles battle of the first-years provided the Tigers with the match-clinching fourth point. First-year Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minn.) delivered a pair of 6-3 sets in a match with Wellesley first-year Praslin Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.).

Bian nearly came up with a point at No. 4 versus Levy, taking the match three sets. Levy won the first 7-5 before Bian flipped the script with a 7-5 second set. Ultimately, Levy finished off a 10-6 tiebreaker for the match.

At No. 5, Pak also went the distance, opening a match with Schmidt with a 6-2 initial set. Schmidt won the second and third sets with 7-5, 6-2 scores.

The last match was No. 2 singles between sophomore Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) and No. 28 ranked Andrade. After being shutout the first set, Corte-Real recovered with a 6-3 second set to force a third. The final set went to a tiebreaker and Andrade outlasted Corte-Real 7-6(2).
