Blue Golf Places 5th at Northeast Invitational

SOUTHWICK, Mass. – No. 15 Wellesley College golf finished fifth at this weekend's Northeast Invitational played at The Ranch Golf Club. 

The Blue compiled a total score of 617 (+41). No. 13 Middlebury won the tournament at 598, while No. 18 Bowdoin made a Sunday charge to finish second with 610. No. 5 Amherst placed third (611) ahead of No. 4 Williams (616). No. 12 Hamilton was behind Wellesley in sixth (625) and No. 21 Babson (655) placed seventh. 

Today's conditions were extremely difficult as the field had to deal with on and off rain showers, gusty winds and a winter-like chill. 

Junior Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) had the best score for Wellesley on Sunday. Yeh went out in 37 and came in with a 38, including a birdie on the final hole to post a 3-over 75, which was tied for the fourth lowest score of the day. Yeh finished t-17th. 

Junior Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) placed t-9th for the tournament after Sunday's round of 78 (+6). Sun birdied the lengthy, into the wind par-5 13th.

First-year Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) came away with an 81 (+9) after a front nine of 41 and a back of 40. Li finished in a tie for 20th. 

Sophomore Savannah Boyd (Shanghai, China) posted an 82 (+10) to place t-24th overall. 

Junior Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) carded an 86 (+14) to round out the team.

Junior Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.) put together a great tournament, as an individual, to place eighth with a two-round score of +6. Bajpai shot a 77 (+5), which was tied for the ninth best round of the day. 

First-year Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) shot a 79 for the second straight day, while first-year Allyson Duan (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) had an 85 as the duo also competed as individuals. 

The Blue will be back in action on May 1 at the Liberty League Championship.
