No. 38 Tennis Ends Regular Season with 7-0 NEWMAC Match at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – No. 38 Wellesley College tennis ended the regular season by defeating Wheaton College, 7-0, on Saturday at Clark Tennis Courts. The Blue ended the regular season 12-5 Overall and 6-2 in NEWMAC matches.

Wellesley has now locked up the No. 3 seed for the NEWMAC Women's Tennis Championship. The Blue will host No. 6 Wheaton (9-9 Overall, 3-5 NEWMAC) in a rematch, but this time at home, on Tuesday, April 28 at 5:00 PM.

All three doubles lines put together matching 6-1 scorelines.

Junior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and sophomore Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) beat seniors Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and  Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) at No. 1. Sophomores Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) overtook juniors Laila Haraj-Sai (Madison, Conn.) and Asia-Leigh Hollis (Hamilton, Bermuda) at the second line. Juniors Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) earned the win over junior Taylor Wilson (Dover, N.H.) and Amelie Robinson (Minneapolis, Minn.) at No. 3.

Xu was able to string together a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 against Greenlee.

No. 2 singles saw sophomore Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) defeat Haraj-Sai with two sets that both read 6-2.

First-year Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) rattled off a one-sided 6-1, 6-1 point at No. 3 versus Ortiz.

At No. 4 singles, junior Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) handled Hollis to the tune of a 6-1, 6-2 match.

First-year Praslin Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) was the 6-1, 6-1 victor against Robinson at No. 5.

Junior Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) completed the sweep, only dropping two games in a 6-2, 6-0 triumph with Wheaton junior Isabella Cottrell (Melrose, Mass.).
